Special PhD Award to Nirvan Makoond

Nirvan Makoond has just received the Special Doctoral Award for his Doctoral Thesis “Structural diagnosis of masonry heritage: contributions to non-destructive testing, structural health monitoring and risk assessment”, at Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (UPC).

The award ceremony for the Special Doctoral Awards 2022 was held on November 23 at the UPC. These awards are given to selected theses among those who have obtained a PhD with a cum laude qualification.

This work was done under the supervision of Luca Pelà and Climent Molins before joining Building Resilient. The research presented in the thesis contributes to the enhancement of some key testing and structural health monitoring methods for the analysis of masonry structures. Specific topics dealing with materials testing, full-scale vibration testing, and long-term monitoring were addressed. Ultimately, the work culminated in the development of novel Multi-Criteria Decision-Making tools intended to facilitate decisions on mitigating the risk of structural damage in unique heritage structures. More information on the thesis can be found on the website: https://upcommons.upc.edu/handle/2117/337022.

From the Building Resilient team, we congratulate Nirvan for this well-deserved award and we are very proud to have him with us.
