First results with the Applied Element Method

We have recently been working with the Applied Element Method using the Extreme Loading for Structures (ELS) software. Based on our previous experience of using Abaqus, LS-Dyna and Ansys for computational simulations of the progressive collapse of structures, we are very satisfied with the results we are obtaining with ELS.

These new models have been used to simulate the sudden removal of columns in a precast concrete building structure. The results clearly show the Alternative Load Paths that are activated. These models will be key to predict the behaviour and define the monitoring of the experimental tests that we are going to perform on a full-scale building.
