Building Resilient has just been awarded an ERC Consolidator Grant. The overall aim of the project is to develop a novel fuse-based segmentation design approach to arrest the propagation of failures in building structures.

We want to protect buildings against progressive collapse by connecting building segments with structural fuses. These fuses will provide continuity for normal loads or small initial failures, yet will separate the different segments in situations in which failure propagation is inevitable.

The project will combine, for the first time, the advantages of two opposite concepts: continuity and segmentation.

We will do our best so that the project leads to safer buildings and the saving of lives.
