Numerical analysis in the ENHANCE Project and the use of stiffening beams

In the Enhance project, we study existing reinforced concrete and steel buildings that need strengthening for structural robustness.

We perform advanced numerical analysis with SAP2000 and DIANA to analyse what happens in these buildings, and to design the least invasive retrofitting strategy based on hanging floors from the roof with stiffening beams.

When we use numerical models, we observe that the stiffening beam on the upper floor reduces the slab deformations near the removed column and significantly reduces vertical displacements.
