Building Resilient has recently been awarded an ERC Proof of Concept (POC) Grant entitled “Implementing a new line of defence to avoid the catastrophic collapse of precast buildings”. The overall aim of the project is to develop versatile and trustworthy design tools for implementing fuse-based segmentation in precast concrete buildings to facilitate its market penetration.
Encast will not only create necessary tools for the fuse-based segmentation design of precast RC buildings but will also demonstrate the effectiveness of these tools for different precast systems.
The successful achievement of the project is necessary to pave the way for incorporating fuse-based segmentation in the design of precast buildings, leveraging validated practical design tools to convince relevant stakeholders of their benefits. Moreover, the success of Encast will contribute to the wider acceptance of precast buildings, often wrongly perceived as being less robust than their cast-in-place counterparts.
The project is funded by the European Research Council (ERC) under the European Union’s Horizon Europe research and innovation programme (grant agreement no. 101188699), with a total budget of approximately €150,000 and a duration of 1,5 years.
