Tests on a full-scale bridge structure: Fatigue assessment

The tests on the Ferrandet bridge span are turning out to be successful. We have applied more than 40,000 load cycles, equivalent to the passing of 140,000 trains. The load increment in each cycle was 1,250 kN, respresenting a stress increment of 100 MPa on the most heavily loaded bridge elements.

Apart from the tests on the bridge itself, we also tested the fatigue behaviour of a transversal girder, the bridge element subjected to most of the cyclical loads and thus one of the most susceptible components to fatigue.
